Introducing The Team Behind Arts Derbyshire – Nick Davis

Arts Derbyshire is supported by a team whose sole aim is to enrich the community through art and creativity. Although you may already have heard about and partaken in Arts Derbyshire projects, we would like to introduce you to the arts team behind Arts Derbyshire and learn about their work in their own words.

Nick Davis - Arts Derbyshire Creative in Place for WirksworthIn this article, we are profiling Nick Davis our Creative in Place for Wirksworth.

Passionate about social justice, Nick’s career began as a volunteer for drug charity Release. He then worked as a community substance misuse worker for the NHS before qualifying as a primary school teacher in 2014. This was the foundation for his ensuing work delivering community musical projects and teaching guitar to people of all ages. In 2018, inspired by his previous work in community healthcare, Nick founded District Musicians CIC with Sophie Fishwick, enriching the lives of people with dementia by taking music-making directly into their homes.

Nick’s solo instrumental guitar work has taken him to stages around the world, and his music has been played on a variety of BBC radio shows. He is also a keen sound engineer and session musician, and has worked on many albums.

Nick loves both performing and being in the audience at gigs and festivals, but is happiest at home amongst his family, pets, microphones and guitars.
