One of the UK’s leading international contemporary festival of photography and related media, FORMAT organises a year-round programme of international commissions, open calls, residencies, conferences and collaborations in the UK and Internationally and welcomes over 200,000 visitors from all over the world to its biennale.
Due to the pandemic, this year FORMAT21 launched online on the 11th March and since then has welcomed nearly 60,000 visitors from 94 countries including Hong Kong, Nigeria, Uruguay, Thailand, Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador, Zambia, Trinidad and Tobago, Chad, Guatemala, Lesotho, Kazakhstan, USA, through its virtual doors.
Over the course of the month long festival 7,500 people engaged with our festival events of curatorial tours, artist talks, workshops, Portfolio Reviews and an Easter Egg hunt. This was made possible thanks to the FORMAT’s global team of over 100 online festival volunteers who guided our visitors through the galleries.
FORMAT is organised by QUAD in partnership with the University of Derby, with support from Arts Council England and has been supported in the build of the digital venue by ACE and an Art Fund Respond and Reimagine grant.
We are delighted to announce that FORMAT21 Online will continue to March 2023. If you missed the opportunity to visit over the last month or would like to take another tour around the exhibitions, then worry not, as the festival look forward to welcoming you during the next two years.
