The Times recently named BIF one of the top 50 music festivals around the globe, alongside Glastonbury, Womad, Bludot and events in Spain, France and the USA . The line-up was described as “tip-top”, with opera at its heart as well as jazz, concerts and literary talks. The programme features more than 120 events over 17 days, across six venues running from 6 – 23rd July 2023.

Opera highlights include three new unmissable opera productions, Bellini’s La sonnambula, Handel’s Orlando and Mozart’s Il re pastore.
In addition, BIF and Norwich Theatre launch a brand new musical based on the early life of Buxton’s Vera Brittain with music by Ivor Novello – The Land of Might-Have-Been, already on public sale.
Buxton’s classical music programme always celebrates the UK’s most acclaimed musicians. Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti and The English Concert (10 July) perform Vivaldi in Buxton Opera House, pianist Paul Lewis (19 July) presents the first two parts of a four-part Schubert programme (to be completed in 2024) and The King’s Singers (13 July) make their Buxton debut.
As ever, Buxton leads the way in conversation and debate with an enviable line-up of authors, commentators and politicians.
Top guests include Sir David Hare (8 July), Turner prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller (14 July), Former diplomat Baroness Catherine Ashton (11 July), BBC correspondent Jeremy Bowen (11 July), vaccine queen Dame Kate Bingham (21 July), writer, communicator and strategist Alastair Campbell (22 July) and jounalists Gary Younge (7 July) and Polly Toynbee (8 July) amongst others.
