There’s lots happening behind the scenes as we build towards FORMAT27: PLAY, and we’re looking for creative people to be part of it.

Could you be our next Festival Programme Co-ordinator? QUAD and FORMAT are seeking an experienced and ambitious project co-ordinator to join the team on a freelance, fixed-term contract from October 2026 to April 2027, with a fee of £12,000 for 60 days.

The role will play a key part in planning and delivering FORMAT27, taking place across Derby from 11 March – 11 April 2027, with a particular focus on coordinating the festival’s launch weekend; bringing together exhibitions, artist events, talks, public programmes, the FORMAT Photobook Market and International Portfolio Review.

You’ll work closely with artists, partners, venues, suppliers and the wider FORMAT/QUAD team to help deliver an ambitious festival programme and create an excellent experience for audiences and participants. We’re looking for someone organised and proactive, with excellent communication skills and experience delivering cultural events in a fast-paced environment.

FORMAT27 Open Call Awards

If you’re an artist, photographer or collective with a project that responds to the FORMAT27 theme of PLAY, now is the time to apply. Alongside the opportunity to be part of the 2027 festival, selected applicants will be considered for four awards offering financial support, production opportunities and international exposure.

FORMAT27 Open Call Award — £2,500
£2,500 towards exhibition production costs.

Genesis Metro Award — £1,000
£1,000 + VAT credit towards photographic printing and finishing services.

Glaz Photography Festival Exhibition Award
The opportunity for a selected artist to exhibit at the next edition of Glaz Photography Festival in Rennes, France in November 2027.

Lishui Photography Festival Exhibition Award
The opportunity for a selected artist to attend and exhibit at the next Lishui Photography Festival in China in November 2027.
