Local singer-songwriter Hannah Brine unveils her new single The Longest Night on Tuesday December 9th, a jazz-soaked ode to the Winter Solstice – December 21st, the longest night of the year.
Co-written with pianist and composer Isaac Horton – currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) – the track conjures the stillness of midwinter, where shadows stretch, time slows, and love lingers like breath in cold air.
Speaking about the song, Hannah says:
“I wanted to write something atmospheric and jazzy — a piece that feels like wrapping up on a cold winters night, when everything is dark and quiet, yet somehow full of possibility.”
Sweeping piano lines from Horton weave behind Brine’s velvety vocals, creating a sound world that feels both intimate and cinematic. The song offers a moment of reflection amid the season’s noise, inviting listeners to find beauty in the quiet and comfort in the romance of the dark.
The Longest Night continues Brine’s exploration of genre and storytelling, marking another step in her evolving artistic journey. Hannah’s recent songwriting news also includes being a co-writer on this years Junior Eurovision Cyprus entry with song ‘Away’ – and also having been commissioned to write a song ‘Dear Santa’ for the BBC drama The Truth About Phyliss Twigg, which airs on Christmas Eve this year.
