Live & Local have announced their new Winter/Spring 2024/25 season of professional performances in community venues across Derbyshire. With music, drama, comedy-theatre, dance, storytelling, puppetry and more, there really is something for everybody!
Funded by Arts Council England and local district and borough councils, Live & Local has been facilitating surprising shows in surprising places for over 33 years by supporting local volunteers to bring exciting and awe-inspiring shows for all ages to community spaces across the county.
Running into the Christmas period, this season promises lots of exciting new performers and shows for audiences to discover, as well as returning favourites, which guarantee a fantastic night out in a Derbyshire village near you. Highlights include:
Live & Local regulars Pentabus Theatre Company are back with a brand-new show called
Make Good: The Post Office Scandal, a musical that tells the story of the Post Office Scandal, now recognised as one of the gravest miscarriages of justice in British history.
SHED by Northern Rascals is a dance-theatre show from the Rural Touring Dance Initiative that uses visual art, digital technologies, spoken word and contemporary dance to raise awareness of the mental health issues faced by many young people. Made for and by young people.
Don’t miss the return of Old Spot – Appalachian Fiddle and Banjo Duo with their foot-stomping old-time music expressed with a range of instruments including fiddle, banjo, gourd banjo and guitar.
New to the menu this year is As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning by ARKangel which adapts author Laurie Lee’s captivating teenage journey from the Cotswolds to the Spanish Civil War into an evocative multi-sensory odyssey with live music and prose.
Steve Wilson, Artist Engagement Officer at Live & Local said:
“We’re extremely excited to launch this new season, packed full of high-quality shows from established and emerging artists and performers. It’s also really exciting to see many of the artists who have participated in our talent development programme DART (Developing Artists for Rural Touring) progress on to our menu and see them embraced by our network of promoters. Audiences are going to love it!”
