Haywire Theatre brings theatre-in-the-dark to audiences across UK fringes with Nyctophilia

In collaboration with upcoming writer Isaac Saward, Haywire Theatre is touring across the UK with their new, original production, Nyctophilia, providing a unique experience to audiences.

The show, which is the first on the fringe scene to tackle theatre-in-the-dark for an entire performance, invites audiences for an entirely new kind of theatre experience. The Buxton run opens at Underground at The Old Clubhouse, Buxton and will be playing on Thurs 7th July at 2:30pm, Fri 8th July at 1pm and Sat 10th July 10pm.

One tree, one night, all of history. Nyctophilia is a show like many others, grappling with ideas of love, mystery, and magic, but with one important twist. This time, your ears are your only guide. Set entirely under the cover of a night sky, Nyctophilia is a sensory journey through time that asks questions of how our imagination may be opened once our eyes are closed. With this show, Haywire takes audiences on an exploration into how we may dismantle storytelling as we know it, and be reborn with the metaphorical new dawn. The success of Haywire’s festival debut in 2021 with Adam Barnard’s buckets, being described by Jayne Marling as “well crafted” and “effortlessly confident”, has encouraged the company to push boundaries and experiment with the conventions of theatre. Nyctophilia promises a unique experience for audiences and urges them to question how far their imagination can take them when the lights go out.
