Peak District pottery festival raises funds for Derbyshire heritage pub

EIGHTY-SIX potters from across the country will gather in the Peak District for a two day celebration of ceramics, with proceeds going to the restoration of a 17th Century Derbyshire heritage pub and its pottery.

The popular Wardlow Mires Pottery Festival, started back in 2012 by the now late husband and wife potters Geoff and Pat Fuller, attracts established and up-coming pottery makers.

This year’s Celebration of the Table takes place on Saturday 12 and Sunday September 13 at Wardlow Mires set in the heart of the Peak District countryside, near the Three Stags Heads pub.

Proceeds from last year’s show have all been used to maintain the heritage Grade 2 listed Derbyshire Longhouse building The Three Stags Heads in Wardlow Mires including new heating and plumbing systems, plus further work on the former pottery to bring ceramic skills back to the building.

The 300-year-old Three Stags Heads, which remains one of the best traditional pubs in the country thanks to its ales, stone floors, open fires and refreshingly offbeat approach, has gained various accolades over the years including appearing in The Telegraph’s Best Pubs 2026 and is identified by CAMRA for its nationally important and historic pub interior.

John Davison, brother of Pat Fuller, who now organises the festival with a team of family, friends and other volunteers, said: “All proceeds from the show go to maintain this historic pub which features in The Telegraph’s Best Pubs 2026 and is listed by CAMRA as having a nationally important and historic pub interior.

“The festival evolves every year and last year’s event was our most successful yet. It not only showcases exceptional work, but also helps keep these traditions alive by welcoming new, and established voices and generations of makers.

“Whether you are an experienced collector, a practising potter, or a first-time visitor, I hope you find inspiration in the work on display, relish conversations and soak up the shared enthusiasm that make this festival so special. I also hope you make some really special pottery purchases to take away and enjoy.”

Potters will be based in a huge marquee just off the B6465 near Wardlow village, with food stalls, refreshments and beer tent in an area behind the marquee. Card facilities will be available for purchases and entry.

The show runs from 10am-5pm on Saturday September 12 and 10am-4pm on Sunday September 13. Last entry is one hour before closing time.

Tickets cost £6 each on the gate (free for children under 16) with free parking.
