The Cromford Water Power Project: Update.

The works to install the turbine begins in earnest next week. The waterflow to the wheelpit has been stemmed with a dam that steers the water off  to the river via a different route.  This portadam will remain in place for several months, until the works have progressed and the penstock gates are in place.

There are also some temporary closures for access to the viewing platform, while workmen are cutting out the stone below. We will be reopening this as soon as is possible.

Tupton Primary School collects for Arkwright’s Attic

Children from Tupton Primary School came on a school trip to Cromford Mills and were inspired by the need to save our World Heritage Site for future generations.  When they got home they decided to help us, and the planet (reduce, reuse and recycle), by collecting things from home to be sold in Arkwright’s Attic.
We want to say a huge thank you for their support and generosity – Volunteer Steve Hill filled his car to the brim!
Please visit Arkwright’s Attic to see all the amazing books, toys, jigsaws and much more that has been donated.

We are delighted to welcome Clare Harris our new Chief Finance Officer to the Senior Management Team.  Clare has joined us from Aggregate Industries UK in Ashbourne, bringing a wealth of experience in financial management.
As part of the National  Lottery Resilience funding we are thrilled to welcome Zoe Sheppard as our Head of Engagement.  Joining us from the National Trust at Clumber Park, Zoe brings with her experience in catering, retail and visitor services.

Highlighting Heritage Talks

The first of the collaborative series of talks between the Arkwright Society and Belper North Mill, The History of Royal Crown Derby with Dr Elizabeth Woledge was well received by everyone who attended. “The speaker was very interesting and engaging, and it was fantastic to be able to touch and get a close look at the porcelain that she handed round.”

The next talk  Ellen Morewood, Industrial Queen of Alfreton on the 27th April, promises a real insight into the life of a local businesswoman; a rare thing in Georgian England.
