Level 2 and Level 3 Youth Work Practice qualifications

For Derbyshire and Derby City residents

We’re pleased to be working in partnership with Derbyshire County Council (DCC) to offer eligible residents the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification in Youth Work Practice through Need 2 Succeed — completely free of charge.

This opportunity is open to full-time and part-time staff, volunteers and students who work or volunteer in a youth work environment supporting young people aged 11–25.

Who can apply

There are no formal entry requirements. However, applicants must:

  • Be aged 16 or over.
  • Be a resident of Derbyshire or Derby City.
  • Work or volunteer in a youth work environment supporting young people aged 11–25.

What the programme offers

Level 2 and Level 3 pathways allow you to choose the route that best suits your experience and career aspirations. The qualifications are accredited by Skills and Education Group Awards, with the Level 3 programme endorsed by the National Youth Agency (NYA).

Daytime and evening teaching pathways are available to fit around working commitments. The partnership brings together local workforce development and specialist training to help you support young people effectively.

Why take part

  • Gain a nationally recognised youth work qualification.
  • Develop your knowledge, practical skills and confidence when working with young people.
  • Explore or progress towards a career in youth work and further professional development.
  • Access training that would normally cost between £1,475 and £1,675, without the course fee for eligible participants.

Need 2 Succeed has 18 years of experience delivering youth work training and has trained more than 800 professionals.
