TRACEY MEEK – [ISOLATION] ART MAIL – QUAD EXTRA GALLERY SPACES 20 July – 1 September. Open 12pm – 9pm every day. Free Entry
Originally, Isolation Art Mail was a lockdown project facilitated by artist Tracey Meek. The project was a way of collectively sharing experiences through art, offering comfort in difficult times. Similar to a chain letter, the participants received the beginnings of an art piece, some art materials, creative prompts, and various random junk. They were invited to add/respond to the work, and to each other, before sending it on to other recipients. The art mail would then make its way from person to person, eventually returning to Tracey for exhibition. With over 100 UK and international participants, there was a lot of love shared between strangers. |

SCARRED FOR LIFE – THE DARKER SIDE OF CHILDREN’S ENTERTAINMENT Saturday 7 September 7:30pm Did you spend your childhood being traumatised by Worzel Gummidge, Hartley Hare, Children of the Stones and the Spirit of Dark and Lonely Water? Were you terrified of the Usborne Book of Ghosts in your school library, given nightmares by Horror Top Trumps and Game of Jaws, and then handed a Dalek’s Death Ray lolly to calm you down? The children who grew up in the 1970s and 1980s were placed in the unenviable position of being scared by virtually everything. In this show, Liverpool writers Stephen Brotherstone and Dave Lawrence – the men behind the superb Scarred For Life books – will be giving a hilarious talk about the TV, films, music, comics, board games, books, adverts and crisps (no, really) that blighted all of our childhoods. All accompanied by a slide show of some of their most potent childhood fears! And, afterwards, there’ll be a Q&A and discussion – so feel free to chip in with your own memories of retro childhood trauma! Tickets: £15 (standard), £13 (concessions) plus £1 transaction fee. £2 discount for QUAD Members & no transaction fee.
