Ambergate Wireworks – The Part They Played. Drop-in Wire sculpting and story sharing

Event details

Artists Heidi Luker and Lise Bennett have been funded by the National Lottery and Arts Council England to work collaboratively on a site-specific R & D project, Ambergate Wireworks – The Part They Played. A co-production with Derby’s Museum of Making, the project will explore visual artistic responses to how the Ambergate Wireworks (Johnson & Nephew Ltd), changed the course of communication technology, engineering, warfare & farming throughout the world through an immersive installation.

Over a series of free drop-in wire sculpting sessions in Derby Museum of Making, they will introduce people to simple methods of sculpting or ‘drawing’ with wire using a pair of pliers. They’d also love to hear from and interview any ex-workers who want to share their stories of working in the wireworks and will be happy to do so during the sessions.

For this session session Heidi and Lise will be looking at the theme of warfare and also related objects in the Assemblage collection that were made using wire.

11am -3pm in The Throwing Room and interviewing in the Studio
