Award-winning author, Shirley Mann launches new book at Scarthins, Cromford

Event details

Award-winning author, Shirley Mann will be signing copies of her new novel, ‘Faith’s War’ which is the 6th in her series about women at war at a Meet the Author’ event at Scarthin Books, Cromford at 2pm – 4pm on 15th August.

Shirley’s books have all been inspired by the stories of real women and this latest book describes a period in history that changed the outcome of WWII.

It’s 1941 and the tiny island of Malta sits at the heart of the Mediterranean – and at the tipping point of the war. ‘Faith’s War ‘ is the story of a military nurse who, just before being posted to Malta in 1941, discovers she’s adopted and that her birth mother is on the island. With only a rusty tin of clues, she sets out to find her family but has to survive 18 months of intense bombardment while tending to the injured in ancient Valletta’s tunnels deep underground. Her dramatic journey is helped by two revue girls sent to cheer up the troops and hindered by a difficult doctor with ghosts of his own to deal with. She needs courage, a huge amount of luck and fortitude to survive one of the worst sieges in history and maybe find love.
