What's on
A Relaxed Illustrative Painting Workshop with Sally Anderson
Come and spend a creative morning with me drawing, painting and exploring a variety of art materials in a beautiful and inspiring setting.
This workshop is all about taking some time for yourself, slowing down and enjoying the process of making art in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Set in The Walled Garden Workshop, tucked away behind Libby’s Café on Chatsworth Road, we’ll spend 3.5 hours drawing from real-life objects and seasonal inspiration, creating expressive artwork in an illustrative style.
Using a mixture of paint, drawing materials and mixed media, we’ll explore colour, texture, mark-making and composition in a playful and experimental way. Together we’ll focus less on creating a perfect drawing and more on enjoying the creative process, building confidence with materials and developing artwork that feels personal and unique to you.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone who already enjoys drawing and painting, this workshop is designed to help you switch off, unwind and spend a few hours immersed in creativity.
I’m a children’s book illustrator with a background in observational drawing, and I currently teach art at college level as well as leading creative workshops for adults. Alongside illustrating books, I create murals, window art and community projects, and I love helping people reconnect with drawing and painting in a fun, accessible and supportive way.
I’ll begin the session with a short demonstration to help everyone get started. Throughout the workshop I’ll be on hand to offer one-to-one guidance, feedback and encouragement as you explore materials and develop your work.
The session is designed to feel relaxed and enjoyable — more like carving out some creative time for yourself than attending a formal class. By the end of the workshop you’ll leave with a collection of artwork and, hopefully, feeling refreshed, inspired and ready to keep creating.
