What's on
BIG Kids – New Mills Art Theatre
BIG kids will storm the Art Theatre stage on the opening night of BIG the musical. The formidable ensemble group have had a ball in rehearsals and audiences will see they are definitely ownin’ the place and all grown up – despite being aged 7 to 16! Adam Hutchins is the Musical Director for the show – a familiar face in the Art Theatre pit. The very experienced Natalie Bowden is the show’s Director who, assisted by Mhairi Jennings, also choreographs the cast – and they love every step, kick, twist, slide and turn in every routine!
BIG the musical, with an original score, is based on the famous 1988 film that helped turn Tom Hanks into a star, a story about a boy who thinks life sucks and wishes he was older – the next day he wakes up to find he is! Audiences remembering the film will be waiting for the iconic ‘dancing on a giant piano keyboard’ sequence and they won’t be disappointed.
BIG was first produced on Broadway, then in the West End in 2019 and will now shake the Art Theatre stage from 11-14 May. BIG is BIG on fun, BIG on charm, BIG on family-friendly live entertainment for all ages – perfect for the beautiful intimate auditorium of the recently refurbished New Mills Art Theatre.
