Hadfield Open Art Show is back bigger and better this year with a packed events programme for all the family, taking place over a full week May 28th-June 4th at Hadfield Hall, The Craft Barn, and St. Andrew’s Church.
Organised by the Friends of Hadfield Hall, highlights of a very busy week include:
- Exhibition of adult work at Hadfield Hall, May 28th-June 4th. Entries welcome from artists in Glossopdale and further afield. Bring your artwork and completed entry form to Hadfield Hall on May 24th, 2-7pm. Adults can submit up to 3 pieces (£3 per piece). Entry forms are online at www.hadfieldhall.wordpress.com or email hadfieldartshow@gmail.com Judges are Glossop photographer Adrian Lambert, textile artist Maxine Pigram, and Buxton artist Carl
Public opening times are: weekends 10am-4pm, and weekdays 11am-3pm.
- Exhibition of children’s work at The Craft Barn, Station Road, May 28th-June 4th. Children’s work (one piece of work per child under 16, free entry) should be brought to the Community Room (below Hadfield Library) on May 24th, 2-7pm. Alison Hargreaves, Tutor for RSP (Ready, Steady, Paint) will judge the work. Children’s and family activities are planned during the week. For more information, email julia.craftbarn@gmail.com
- Hadfield Pro Loco outdoor painting competition, June 3rd. Open to artists 16 and over painting views in and around Hadfield (entry fee £5). Artists should bring their paper or canvas to the Community Room between 8.30-11am on the day to be stamped before they paint or draw their favourite view, then return it to be displayed before 3.30pm. The public will vote for the winner.
- Artists in Residence: Glossop-based artists Greg Williamson (June 28th), and Karen Heywood (June 29th), will demonstrate their work in the Community Room.
- Adult Workshops for Beginners, May 30th-June 2nd: Introductory classes feature Acrylics with Sue Finley, Pastels with David Woodrow, Oils with Lol Worrall, and Portraits with Peter Cowan. All bookable in advance.
- Andrew’s Church, June 1st, 7-9pm: ‘Walking on Fire’, an evening with Glossop-based writer, artist, and art-historian Michael Howard, talking about the work of artist Theo Major and his friendship with LS Lowry. Refreshments and donations.
- Andrew’s Church, June 3rd, 7-9pm: ‘The Human Touch’, an evening with internationally acclaimed artist Ghislaine Howard talking about her career and future plans. Refreshments and donations.
- Children’s workshops at The Craft Barn: May 30th – June 1st: Each day three creative workshops will be held for accompanied children. More information can be found on the website. Advance booking required.
Organiser Annette Hetherington told The Review: “After the popular event was cancelled last year, we are really looking forward to an inspiring, exciting, and record-breaking art extravaganza. There’s such a lot going on!”
