What’s On this Easter half-term

New exhibitions and half-term family fun at Derby Museums

‘A view of Derby: The Alfred Edward Goodey Collection of ‘Old Derby’ Pictures’ is opening soon at Derby Museum and Art Gallery. This special temporary exhibition of one of Derby Museums’ best loved collections showcases a selection of paintings, drawings, prints and interesting objects from the Alfred Goodey collection. Opening this weekend.

Don’t miss your last chance to explore artist Jon Tordoff’s LEGO® Lake District. At 12.3 square metres, the model includes landmarks Buttermere, Borrowdale and Derwentwater. Jon has recently brought his ‘work-in-progress’ Lake District boards into the space for you to see how he creates the landscape – then have a go yourself in the activity space! Closing Sunday 14th April.

Be inspired by the beautiful landscapes of Derby on display in the new exhibition  ‘A view of Derby: The Alfred Edward Goodey Collection of ‘Old Derby Pictures’ and create your own diorama of Derby with artist Tracey Meek.

Have some fun with LEGO®  and have a go at making a museum treasure, a LEGO® marble run or take on other engineering challenges under the guidance of our LEGO® Makers. We also have mini-figure trails at all three of our sites during the Easter holidays.

Taking inspiration from the Marion Adnams: ‘Into the Enchanted Country’ display, join our facilitators to make and take your own piece of surrealist art.

Head over to Pickford’s House for a series of family activities based on the fascinating collections housed in the Georgian home. Take inspiration from the characters and costumes displayed in the Tiny World of Toy Theatre collection and explore connections between the the Pickford’s House collections and your own home.

The What if? Machine is back for 2024! It’ll be a day packed full of making, creating, designing and building. The day will consist of eight participating teams who will work together to design and build their own section of the machine. You can apply to be part of a team or just come along on the day and marvel at the ingenious contraptions being created. There are lots of What If? Machine activities taking place over the Easter holiday’s including making your our own miniature version of the machine.

The Derby Museums Holiday Activity and Food Programme (HAF) will deliver activities that reflect our collections and exhibitions with a focus on creative and STEAM based activities for young people aged 11-16 years. Free activities will be available for families in Derby who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals. We will also provide a healthy meal from the River Kitchen. These activities will take place during the Easter and Summer holidays.
