The Secret Postcard Show 2024

opening event 30th August 7-8.30pm

 

 

Dear friend of The Old Lock Up Gallery,

I’m writing to let you know that the gallery’s annual Secret Postcard Show is fast approaching and I’ll be flinging the gallery door open on the 30th August for the opening of the exhibition. Please feel free to join me from 7-8.30 ish pm!

I’m still opening envelopes full of postcards for the show that have been donated by artists. We’re currently on 690 postcards from 224 amazing artists.

 

If you can’t make the opening night: then the exhibition continues until 15th September and we are open Friday – Sunday 10-5pm.

 

All of the postcards/miniature works of art are £20 each and the show is a fundraiser for the gallery. It will also fund an artist residency in Jan 2025 for an artist on a low income to use the space to work in for 7 days: a new idea and we’ve had lots of applicants so far..

 

In other news our amazing and interesting  (so our visitors tell us) current show   ‘Persephone’ has 2 more days to run and ends this Saturday 24th August. Pop in if you haven’t manage to see the show yet.

Autumn Workshops
And lastly we’ve 3 more workshops coming up for Autumn: a weekend of monoprinting with inspirational artist & ceramicist Louise McNiff: it’s a fabulous workshop and everyone whose previously attended has loved it.

Then basket making with master weaver Karina from Whittle and Weave in early October, and in November a weekend of watercolour with the amazing botanical water colourist Amber Halsall. If you’d like further info on any of these: just click on the link above!

Celebrating connections between humans and animals

The new exhibition, Chesterfield Menagerie, includes a wide range of items from the Chesterfield Museum collection which show humans connections with animals. It includes a beautiful Brampton salt glaze fish flask, ‘The Plough’ a stunning painting by Joseph Syddall, a wonderful figurine of a Chicken by William Gordon and much more.
