Transition Buxton is hosting two sustainable fashion events in one: a Clothes Swap and a Stitch Don’t Ditch sewing workshop. Enjoy some good company, support sustainable fashion and the second hand revolution, reduce your carbon footprint, and learn how to make and mend clothes. So much more fun than staying home and watching telly!
Refresh your wardrobe and reduce waste! Bring along your gently used clothes and swap them for something new-to-you. All adult sizes and styles welcome, no shoes or swimwear. No money needed – just bring items you no longer wear and take home your new favourites.
Learn practical skills to mend, upcycle, and personalise your clothing. Friendly tutors will guide you through basic repairs and creative techniques – no experience necessary! All materials provided.
No fees, just a donations jar to help cover the cost of venue hire. Light refreshments available.
Fast fashion, which sees clothing produced at a rapid pace and often discarded after minimal use, has a significant impact on the environment. The global fashion industry is responsible for an estimated 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions, with millions of garments ending up in landfills each year. The production process alone is energy, water and toxin-intensive, with the transportation of clothing worldwide, and packaging adding further emissions. Then there are the working conditions in some factories damaging health and lives. By swapping clothes, buying second hand instead of new, and discovering creative ways to make and mend textiles, people can directly combat this cycle of waste and damage.
Together, we can keep clothes and fabric in use and out of landfill!
