Project Dastaan has arrived at the Museum and Art Gallery as part of its UK tour to mark the 75th anniversary of Indian Partition.
The project, located in the World Collection Gallery, explores the aftermath of Partition and ideas around postcolonial identity, forced migration and the effects of colonisation as told by those who experienced it.
The project is made up of two parts, award-winning virtual reality film Child of Empire invites visitors to immerse themselves in one of the largest forced migrations in human history: the 1947 Partition of India and Pakistan. The film is directly inspired by real life accounts from both sides of the border. Accompanying this is Lost Migrations, a three-part animated series featuring hidden stories of the subcontinent, focusing on communities that have been excluded from South Asian historiography: women, the stateless and the diaspora.
Project Dastaan is at Derby Museum and Art Gallery from Tuesday 8th – Sunday 13th November 2022 and is a free, drop-in experience, suitable for ages 12+.
