Open Air Theatre is coming to Derbyshire Dales

Here is a list of events coming up at The Whitworth:

  • 5th June– Last Night at the Proms spectacular! Celebrating the Queens Platinum Jubilee.                                                                                                                                                                                    Details: This FREE event will consist of a Last Night Of The Proms Concert by the Wirksworth Community Orchestra, plus performances from Tinderbox Performing Arts and Wirksworth Community Choir as well as many other activities including Carriage Rides from Red House Stables, Crazy Golf, Giant Board Games, Bouncy Castle, Dog Flyball, Croquet plus much more! You’ll also get to take a tour of a fire engine with Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Services!

  • 5 th June- Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night- Open Air Theatre
    Details: Heartbreak Productions brings you an open-air production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night as you’ve never seen it before. We throw Orsino, Olivia, Viola, and the others into a reality-tv coupling show “Twelve Nights” and see how they fare. This outdoor production keeps close enough to the Bards to appeal to aficionados, but wraps up the themes of obsessive love and its subterfuges in a Love Island meets Big Brother package. Pack a picnic, bring a blanket (or chair), and dress for the weather. We can’t wait to welcome you back to the island to find out what has become of our couples.

  • 19 th June- Dracula- Open Air Theatre
    Details: British Touring Shakespeare bring their renowned strengths of energy and accessibility to a brand new adaptation of this classic gothic horror tale which will make for an unforgettable afternoon of open air theatre. This play contains adult themes which some younger children may find scary so parental discretion is advised. Since 1999, British Touring Shakespeare have delighted audiences around the world and become synonymous with the very best in open air theatre.

  • 10 h July- Shakespeare’s Merry Wives of Windsor- Open Air Theatre
    Details: The Merry Wives Of Windsor is a hilarious romp which sees the women of Windsor gain the upper hand in a bawdy battle of the sexes with the drunken knight Sir John Falstaff. This classic farce is guaranteed to make for an unforgettable afternoon of laughter enjoying outdoor theatre at its very best. Since 1999, British Touring Shakespeare have delighted audiences all around the world with critically acclaimed productions that are fresh, energetic and accessible.

  • 31st July- David Walliams Awful Auntie- Open Air Theatre
    Details: Awful Auntie by David Walliams, adapted for outdoor theatre by Heartbreak Productions, is a truly thrilling tale. Owls, ghosts, chases, escapes, motorcycle rides, and tiddlywinks all fill Stella’s days as she evades her menacing Aunt and saves the family home. So, please join us at the dedication of the new playground at Saxby Hall and hear how it all came about. Make sure you bring a blanket or chair to sit on, weather-appropriate gear, and a picnic, as the tale could take some time to tell, and storytelling can be hungry work!

  • 6 th August- Much Ado About Murder- Open Aire Theatre
    Details: Don your detective cap and join Heartbreak Productions for some super silly outdoor theatre this summer. Our original murder mystery will set five suspects under the spotlight, and we will depend on the audience to find answers.

  • 14 th August- Jane Eyre- Open Air Theatre
    Details: Heartbreak is delighted to present this original outdoor theatre adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s classic, Jane Eyre. Using the backdrop of a carnival, we follow our favourite Victorian heroine through her many ordeals. Watch her escape from her aunt’s house, her school, the fire, the moors, and finally find safety with her true love, Mr Rochester. So step right up, ladies and gents, to Heartbreak Productions’ Carnival Spectacular – complete with astounding acrobats, jaw-dropping jugglers. And dont forget our very special guest – the death-defying escape artist Jane Eyre.
