October at Spring Bank Arts

Saturday 3rd October 7:30pm
Last Dance Saloon

In association with Live & Local and The Multi Story Theatre Company we bring you a captivating theatre production.

The performers will be up close and perform in the round giving you a unique experience as you encounter two older individuals that meet at a tango retreat in Buenos Aires and must navigate the challenges of a long-distance relationship across hemispheres, fuelled by regular tango sessions in Argentina, that include unexpected flights of the imagination.

The play masterfully blends stories, songs, and tango dancing. Staged intimately “in the round,” it replicates the atmosphere of a social dance, often inviting audiences to stay after the show to learn a few tango steps. It has been highly praised for being “sensitive, funny, moving, poignantly relevant and viscerally relatable”

Tickets £14 available from Spring Bank Arts Mon to Fri on 01663 308202, on the door and online.
Doors and Bar open 7pm.

Arundo5

We are Arundo5 – a reed quintet. A reed quintet consists of Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bass Clarinet and Bassoon. It is joyful, colourful and deeply expressive, but you might not have heard one yet! Every piece in this programme was composed, adapted or arranged by or for Arundo5, as we strive to increase the work available for quintets like ours.

This line up of instruments was dreamt up in the 1990s by an innovative group of Dutch musicians, and an innovative spirit is what Arundo5 has inherited. In choosing our programme we have picked works by composers who are known for rearranging their own pieces. You might be familiar with these beautiful pieces by Brahms, Debussy and Cole Porter. Here we have a fresh and faithful reimagining of them.

Craic is a new composition by Benjamin Ellin. It is, as the name suggests, really good fun. Benjamin is currently engaged with composing his Second Symphony and some of his ideas, both structurally and materially, have found outlets in this brilliant little piece. It’s full of life and vigour and we’re excited to premier it at New Mills.

Nigel Woods is a British composer and saxophonist. He’s familiar to many musicians, not least saxophonists, for his extensive output of works and arrangements, some of which are staples of the grade exam syllabus. His work seems instantly familiar, drawing on well-known styles and presenting them with vitality. Highly melodic and with plenty of rhythmic drive, Nigel’s work is always a hit with audiences.

Performed by:
Manon Lewis – Oboe, Stuart Eminson – Clarinet, Toby Kelly – Saxophone, Jessica Tomlinson – Bass Clarinet & Howard Dann – Bassoon

Tickets £12 including Tea & Cake served at 2pm before the performance at 2:30pm.
Available from Spring Bank Arts, Mon to Fri on 01663 308202, on the door and online.

Dallahan

Forged out of the traditional music scenes of Scotland and Ireland—yet influenced by the sounds of the Balkans, North America, and far beyond—Dallahan have spent over a decade guiding audiences through a musical world tour of their own making.

Their dazzling live show, marked by restless creativity and stunning virtuosity, has come to be defined by its refusal to sit still. Guitarist and singer Jack Badcock, banjo player Ciaran Ryan, accordionist Andrew Waite, and fiddler Benedict Morris form the band that has evolved continuously while somehow remaining rooted in the traditions that first brought them together.

Along the way, Dallahan have brought their music to 25 countries, earned five nominations for Folk Band of the Year (2016, 2019, 2022, 2023, 2025), two shortlists for Album of the Year (2014, 2016), an Emerging Excellence Award (2014) and won Instrumental Track of the Year (2016).

Now, with well over a decade together, Dallahan stand as a veteran touring outfit whose sound has matured without ever losing its exploratory spark. Their worldwide cult following—built slowly, show by show, across several continents—reflects a band that has grown into its own identity while continually pushing its boundaries. Their latest studio album, Speak of the Devil (June 2023), captures this ongoing evolution: seasoned, adventurous, and unmistakably Dallahan.

Tickets £16 available from Spring Bank Arts Mon to Fri 9:30-12:30 on 01663 308202, on the door and online.
