Good Habits return with Better for Now, their most emotionally expansive and sonically ambitious album to date. Blending soaring vocals, cello, accordion, synths and drums, this band continue to blur the boundaries between indie, folk, jazz and alternative pop, creating a sound that is uniquely their own.
Set for release on 9 October 2026 through Colour Plum Records, Better for Now is an honest and deeply personal exploration of life as independent artists. Written and recorded by Bonnie Schwarz and Pete Shaw, the album captures the exhilarating highs and inevitable uncertainties of building a creative life together. It reflects the joy of self-determination, the challenges of navigating an industry that often feels ill-fitting, and the resilience required to keep moving forward.
Rather than offering easy answers, Better for Now embraces life’s contradictions. It is an album about learning to live within uncertainty; not fixed, just better for now.
Throughout the record, Bonnie and Pete’s songwriting remains at the heart of the story. Lead single Uetze introduces the album’s synth-infused direction with a driving, trance-like energy, while Ideas showcases the duo’s acoustic roots, anchored by delicate cello pizzicato. Elsewhere, Reading Song pairs propulsive riffs with reflections on books, nostalgia and shared escapism, while Different Eyes casts a thoughtful gaze on a fractured world.
One of the album’s most powerful moments arrives with Body of Mine, a fearless folk anthem confronting lost time, body image and the systems that reinforce those struggles. Tracks such as What Will Become of Me? and Keeping An Eye balance lyrical weight with musical brightness, creating a tension that runs throughout the record. Closing track So Easy brings the album to a gentle conclusion, with Bonnie and Pete finding solace in each other through a song built around a soft, repeating ostinato — a quiet exhale after an emotional journey.
Joining forces with Ostara
To complement the growth in activity the band have now signed to Ostara Agency with Jo Elkington at the helm as agent! The release of Better for Now will be supported by an extensive UK and European tour throughout autumn 2026, followed by Good Habits’ highly anticipated return to Australia and New Zealand in early 2027. Further touring and collaborative projects are already planned for later in 2027, ensuring these songs will continue their journey far beyond the album’s release.
