Derby Peace Week
Derby Peace Week is taking place between 18th and 22nd of September 2023. During the week Derby will host a variety of cultural events promoting peace, antiracism and protection of the environment. Coordinated by 19 different local progressive organisations.

On Thursday 21st September, Artcore will be celebrating Peace. Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on the 21st September, this is a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace. At Artcore we will be supporting International Peace day at Artcore Gallery, starting at 10am. We will be hosting a creative arts workshop with Peace at its heart 10am-11:30am, at 11:45am we will be unveiling the ‘357 Squares For Peace’ blankets from Derby’s twinned city of Osnabruck and at 12:30 we will share food together and reflect on ideas of Peace.

We look forward to welcoming you all.

Building Bridges – Exhibition Launch
Friday 4th August, 6pm – 8pm at the Artcore Gallery, DE1 2DS

Building Bridges Exhibition Launch was a great success.

Artcore partnered with Kunstraum Hase29, gallery in Osnabruck (Derby’s Twin City), for the Building Bridges residency.

In May this year, two artists from Derby, Caroline Ainsworth and Martin Hyde, spent the week exploring the city of Osnabruck and creating artwork. The artists had the exciting opportunity for intercultural sharing of experiences and ideas whilst developing artworks that serve as a bridge between the two communities. The residency coincided with Osnabruck’s Maiwoche festival. The artists reflected on the various links or points of references between the two cities and what binds them or could potentially bind together.

We also have two artists from Osnabruck, Eva Gruter and Vivian Blum taking part in the exhibition. Eva and Vivian produced and presented an engaging and inspiring performance art at the exhibition launch.

We are excited to have them visiting Derby for two weeks.

Their works will be exhibited in the Artcore Gallery from 04/08/2023 – 26/08/2023. However, it won’t end here! We are excited to have the Building Bridges Exhibition continuing on display at the City Lab venue, hosted by Marketing Derby, from the 29/08/2023 for two weeks.

Number Narratives

It was wonderful to present our Number Narratives project and also to hear the feedback of our participants who have been regularly attending the sessions at Artcore.

The Number Narratives sessions are supporting adults to develop their functional math’s skills through creativity. Developing transferable life skills by delivering technology, engineering and mathematics sessions through the use of visual arts.

Our workshops aim to build social cohesion and create opportunities to increase confidence with numbers in daily-life and for those needing formal numeracy qualifications.

In our sessions we aim to achieve an understanding of numeracy through holistic and practical projects, whilst using creative thinking and developing confidence through the sharing of ideas.

Number Narratives is open to adults aged 19 and above who have not attained a higher maths qualification and want to gain employability skills.
