Celebrate International Women’s Day with Derbyshire’s High Sheriff

Derbyshire’s High Sheriff will be sharing her experiences of championing diversity, equality and social justice at an event marking International Women’s Day in Chesterfield.

Organised by Chesterfield Borough Council and the Chesterfield Equality and Diversity Forum, Derbyshire’s High Sheriff for 2023/34 Theresa Peltier, will be reflecting on her 27-year career in policing.

The free event will be held in Chesterfield Town Hall on Friday 8 March from 9.45am until 11.45am with free refreshments and an opportunity to network with members of the forum.

Councillor Judy Staton, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for governance, said: “We’re excited to be welcoming Theresa to Chesterfield for this event and I know she will be a truly inspirational speaker. We host these events every year and they always prove to be very popular. If you plan to attend, please book as soon as possible.”

Theresa Peltier, who is Derbyshire’s High Sheriff for 2023/24, was the Head of Equality for Derbyshire Police, having spent 27 years in policing.

Her role enabled her to work with the Home Office, National Police Chief’s Council, Equality and Human Rights Commission, the College of Policing, and national staff associations as well as becoming Vice-President of the National Black Police Association.

She was Head of Diversity and Inclusion at Bedfordshire Police, as well as becoming Vice-President of the National Black Police Association. She led on the implementation of hate crime and stop and search scrutiny for the force and oversaw the Disability-Related Harassment Inquiry launched by the Equality and Human Rights Commission before returning to Derbyshire.

In 2009 she was honoured to become the national recipient of the Police Staff of the Year Award from the British Association of Women in Policing and has received two Chief Constable Commendations for her work in Equality and Inclusion. She has also received Lifetime Achievement Awards from the National and Derbyshire Black Police Associations.
