Fringe Friends co-ordinator Jeanette Hamilton has joined the “top table” to become the new Vice Chair of the Buxton Fringe.
A long term member of the committee with a wealth of experience, Jeanette was elected at the Fringe’s recent AGM at the Green Man Gallery on November 9th taking on a role that had been vacant since the sad death of former Vice Chair Viv Marriott. Sandra Jowett, Stephen Walker and Carole Garner were all re-elected as Treasurer, Fringe Chair and Secretary respectively.
Stephen paid tribute to Viv as an “integral presence on the committee”. He also praised the generosity and support of the late former chair, Keith Savage. In his speech to attendees, Stephen said that after the lingering effects of Covid, “it was wonderful to return to a full Fringe this year” with 171 mostly live events and the return of Fringe Sunday and the Fringe/BIF carnival float, which won a Well Dressing Award.
Stephen thanked everyone who helped make the Fringe such a success including the ever-active Fringe committee: “What we deliver is truly remarkable given that our budget is a tiny fraction of other large-scale Fringes. Our volunteer-run status is key.”
The AGM was attended by volunteers, performers, Fringe Friends and other interested parties. People can join at any time so anyone wanting to become involved should contact info@buxtonfringe.org.uk to find out more or meet the team at its Christmas party in Buxton’s Pump Room at 7pm on Friday December 9.
Next year’s Fringe is scheduled to take place from July 5-23 2023 with the website opening for entries from December 1 2022. See Take Part on www.buxtonfringe.org.uk for further information.
