Supported by National Lottery Heritage Fund through the ’10 Years of Walking Together’ project, we are delighted to share a short book and film which commemorate the 106 miners who died and also shares the story of the project and all those who contributed.
You can view an electronic copy of the book and watch the film here on The Story Mine website.
You can also read the Derbyshire County Council press release here.
We are delighted to also be able to share the ‘Markham March’, a piece composed for brass band by composer, author and Markham Vale Heritage Group member Ken Wain. The piece is a personal tribute to the 106 men who died in the three major disasters at Markham Colliery in 1937, 1938 and 1973. It is performed by the Unite the Union Band, Sheffield, conducted by Jonathan Beatty and arranged by Matt Doubleday.
Listen to the Markham March here.
