Barbara Dickson returns to Derbyshire on 13 August with a concert at Belper’s St. Peter’s Church featuring Nick Holland on keyboards and special guest John Tams. The concert celebrates the lives of folk music legends Mick Peat and Barry Coope. Earlier this year Barbara said, ‘I remember Mick Peat with the greatest fondness, as he was immensely kind to me when I was starting out as an itinerant musician all those years ago. I was struggling to make a living in Scotland and Mick was amongst the folk club organisers south of the Border who believed in me and booked me for their clubs. I remember them fondly and particularly Mick, who always encouraged me to strive further for recognition. Many years went by of course when I didn’t see him but we’d bump into each other at the BBC Folk Awards when you could ‘bump’ into old friends there. He was a great asset to the folk scene in the area and a great advocate for what can be gained from gathering together to listen to and play music. He’s gone to the great folk club in the sky to organise the floor singers there. It’ll be a good night!’ As a multi-million selling recording artist with an equally impressive Olivier Award-winning acting career, Barbara Dickson OBE has firmly established herself as one of the most enduring and popular artists in Britain today.
To date, Barbara has recorded 37 albums. Her hit singles have included ‘Caravan Song’, ‘January February’, ‘Answer Me’ and ‘Another Suitcase In Another Hall’. Barbara’s duet with Elaine Paige, ‘I Know Him So Well, was Number One on the UK charts for four weeks, selling almost a million copies.
As an actress, has two Olivier Awards for her performances in ‘Blood Brothers’ and ‘Spend, Spend, Spend’. John Tams is Barbara’s special guest for the Belper concert. His musical partnerships with Barry Coope and Mick Peat are the stuff of legends. In addition to his recordings and many live appearances with groups including the Albion Band and Home Service, John was Musical Director at the National Theatre where he was part of the creative team for the hugely successful ‘War Horse’. As an actor, his career included the role of Daniel Hagman in the TV show ‘Sharpe’ with Sean Bean.
