Belper Library to play host to the Poet Laureate’s national tour

Poet Laureate Simon Armitage is to visit Derbyshire’s newest library as part of his national A to Z Libraries Tour. Simon will be joined by special guest the award-winning poet Helen Mort, former Derbyshire Poet Laureate.

Derby Book Festival

Thursday 27th May – Saturday 5th June 2021 at various locations across Derby. Derby Annual Book Festival is back for its sixth year. This year there is a programme of over 60 events across ten days to celebrate the joy of books and reading for all ages and interests. There is something for everyone with topics ranging from clouds to crime, railways to romance, trains to Trump, and walking to Wallis Simpson! There are book-related activities for families and children during the May half-term break, with many taking place outdoors at parks across the city. Derby Book Festival there are two programmes of events each year. The main Festival, from 27th May to 5th June 2021, includes around 60 events and the Autumn Edition has 10 events over three days.

Tickets will go on sale for Festival events taking place at Derby Theatre from 16th April and early May for other events.

Hay Festival: Programme available, 26 MAY- 6 JUNE 2021

This is the 34th spring edition, broadcasting for free online from Hay-on-Wye. All events will be closed-captioned and available to watch for free 24 hours from their live broadcast.

New Novel ‘Never: A Word’ by Andy Christopher Miller launches via Zoom

Wirksworth-based writer, Andy Christopher Miller, will be launching his new novel, ‘Never: A Word’ via Zoom at 19.30 on Sunday 16th May. The book tells the story of a woman’s search to uncover the secrets behind the suicide of her grandmother in the sea off Dorset in the 1920s. In doing so, she comes to understand the consequences of this tragic event for subsequent generations, for her parents and for herself. Andy is also a winner of the Yeovil Poetry Prize.

Anne Goodwin invites you to her new novel launch online!

East Midlands Author Anne Goodwin and Derby-based publisher Sara-Jayne Slack of Inspired Quill invites you to join them online on Thursday 27th May at 7pm to celebrate the launch of Anne’s new novel, Matilda Windsor Is Coming Home, a poignant, compelling and brilliantly authentic portrayal of asylum life. The event features live readings, author and publisher in conversation and audience Q&A.
