Déda, which is Derby’s nationally-renowned centre for dance, movement and creativity, is set to unveil a giant street mural on its building in the Cathedral Quarter.
Following a community consultation, Déda has commissioned Zoë Power, a Bristol-based artist and illustrator to create the colourful 6m by 8m mural in Chapel Street.
It is part of Déda’s wider project, Altered Streets – An Urban Transformation, which will bring Chapel Street and the surrounding area to life with public art, lighting design and outdoor performances and will be officially unveiled during Derby Festé weekend (September 24-26).
Steve Slater, Director of Déda, said: “The mural will act as a vibrant and creative welcome and respond to our community about what it means to live in Derby as well as represent Deda’s past, present, and future.
“We commissioned Zoë because her work is bold, graphic and colourful. Having seen her work on walls across the UK, we were impressed with how she creates work inspired by the themes or connection, unity and body positivity to spread joy and uplift corners of cities.
“We look forward to officially unveiling the mural as part of Derby Festé and to further developing the Altered Streets in this corner of the Cathedral Quarter.”
