TOUCH STONE is a beautifully shot, short film commissioned by Tom Dwyer for this year’s Wirksworth Festival.
This short film documents the Festivals 2021 artist in residence, Liane Lang, and her time living and working at Wigwell Lodge, a studio and cottage just outside of Wirksworth.
Up and coming Derbyshire-based filmmaker, Tom Dwyer has been working with Liane throughout her residency to make this film – hiking, photographing and exploring the surrounding landscape of the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District, documenting the places, ideas and materials Liane encountered in this strange and magical landscape.
“Derbyshire and the Peaks feels like a museum to human history. Tightly packed are traces and tracks of our activities going back thousands of years. Mounds and mines, quarries and caves, fields and rock faces. And in the bucolic beauty rumble away vast machines extracting aggregate, milling sand, huge lorries roar down picturesque lanes, moving tons of rock.”
Liane Lang will exhibit the work made during this residency for the Festival in 2022.
The artist in residence programme is supported by The Ampersand Foundation and TOUCH STONE has been supported by Ian Bell Wealth Management.
