Verdi’s Ernani
Verdi’s Ernani, a four-act operatic drama, depicts Elvira’s tragic love dilemma involving her lover, guardian, and the King of Spain. Adrian Kelly conducts this BIF production at Buxton Opera House.
Handel’s Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno
Following Acis & Galatea’s 2021 success, BIF partners with The Early Opera Company for Handel’s Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno, conducted by Christian Curnyn at Buxton Opera House.
Peter Brook’s adaptation of Bizet’s La Tragedie de Carmen
BIF’s second collaboration with Norwich Theatre brings Peter Brook’s adaptation of Bizet’s La Tragedie de Carmen to Buxton Opera House. Brook’s version combines Bizet’s opera and Prosper Mérimée’s original novella.
Ethel Smyth, The Boatswain’s Mate
A new BIF production by British suffragette composer Ethel Smyth unfolds a comedic battle of the sexes on Margate’s seafront, capturing the essence of British summer at the Pavilion Arts Centre.
Joseph Haydn’s La Canterina
BIF’s final 2024 production is Haydn’s two-act operetta, La canterina. This comedic opera promises a riotous show with its typical buffo characters, performed at the Pavilion Arts Centre.
Superstar Cuban-British director, choreographer and ballet dancer, Carlos Acosta makes Buxton debut
Superstar Cuban-British director, choreographer and ballet dancer, Carlos Acosta, makes his debut at BIF
Acosta, a long-time principal dancer at the Royal Ballet, has danced as a guest principal with all the major ballet companies across the world and now thrives as a director and choreographer.
There will be two performances of his show On Before in Buxton Opera House on 20 and 21 July 2024.
Commenting on 2024, Michael Williams, BIF’s CEO said: “We are literally dancing into 2024, with megastar Carlos Acosta and a line-up of operas, books and jazz that will make your mouth water. We are all looking to the arts to lift the spirits and Buxton promises to deliver.”
