Here is a list of all the exciting events that are lined up for all ages:

 

  • Looking for a special treat this Mother’s Day? Book a guided tour of the Museum of Making, telling Derby’s 300-year history of making and innovation, including a trip to the top of the tower (weather dependent).  Finish the afternoon with an indulgent Afternoon Tea from the River Kitchen.

  • Join professional artist Seiko Kinoshita for an Introduction to Weaving at the Museum of Making. In this creative workshop, Seiko will guide you through the process of making your own woven textile art, including building a simple frame, choosing your materials, and creating the finished piece. All levels of experience are welcome.

  • Enjoy crafts, games and stories inspired by Derby Museums’ curious collections at Tots Make and Do. Celebrate British Science Week and learn about measuring by looking at some of the largest and smallest objects in the Museum. This drop-in session is suitable for ages 2-5 years.

  • STEAM Tots is a loose parts play session, offering a sensory exploration of objects and materials to stimulate children’s curiosity, imagination and experimentation. These drop-in sessions are suitable for ages 2-5 years.

  • Returning for 2022, the What If? Machine is a celebration of making, creating, designing and building! Come along to marvel at the ingenious contraptions created on the day, with a chance to get involved in making it’s smaller but just as over-engineered cousin.

Entrants top 100 for July’s Buxton Fringe

Over 100 entrants have registered for this year’s Buxton Fringe so far with just a few weeks still to go before the final entry date for the printed programme. The discounted ‘early bird’ entry period up till the end of February was responsible for much of this activity with managed venue Underground announcing that they are back for 2025 with not one but two managed venues at Spring Gardens and in Fairfield. Many other venues in Buxton and beyond are also in use this year.

Animate awarded grant from The National Heritage Lottery Fund

We are pleased to announce that Derby based Animate Projects has been awarded a £147,170 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to deliver WORK Records, an 18 month creative heritage project that will 'animate' historic working lives across the East Midlands.
