Cycling Touring Shakespearean actors, the Handlebards are bringing A Midsummer Night’s Dream to High Lea Park, New Mills on Tuesday 25th July.
They are back! Last year the Handlebards treated us to a riotous performance of Twelfth Night in High Lea Park. This month they return with A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Tickets for the performance are just £11.50 (concessions and family tickets are also available) available here:https://www.handlebards.com/show/dream-high-lea-park/
“Doors” open at 6pm and the action starts at 7pm. Feel free to bring a picnic, although food and drink will be available. As it’s an outdoor production, bring a chair or blanket to sit on and dress for the weather! In case of rain, please don’t bring umbrellas as they block sight-lines for other audience members. Ponchos and raincoats are just as fetching, so please wear these instead.
Stealing a neat description: In the play, four young lovers find themselves lost in a magical forest, where the Fairy King and Queen are fighting for the possession of a changeling boy. A group of amateur actors head to the same forest to rehearse for a play. Humans and fairies collide and hilarity ensues!
Last year, the Handlebards held the audience spellbound, switching characters, props and costumes with panache; the plot merrily bouncing along against the familiar background of High Lea Park. There were great opportunities to catch up with friends and neighbours during the interval too!
On site catering includes Ape Pizza, and purveyors of excellent cakes and coffee, Bakes and Bars as well as Zoppi’s ice cream.
