Kell Wind Trio – Afternoon Tea Concert

Sunday 23rd July 2:30pm

These three highly experienced chamber and orchestral musicians give lively and informative concerts.  They introduce every piece of music that they play – a feature of their concerts that is most popular with their audiences.  Their programmes include music of many different styles and genres – from the music of the Baroque Era to accessible music from the 20th and 21st centuries.

Alastair was awarded a Junior Exhibition to the Royal Manchester College of Music, where his teachers included Peter Lloyd, who was for many years principal flute of the London Symphony Orchestra.  He studied for four years at the Royal Northern College of Music with David Butt (first flute of the B.B.C. Symphony Orchestra) and Trevor Wye. He plays regularly with a number of orchestras in the Manchester area including the Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra and the Cheshire Sinfonia.

Geoffrey studied in London for several years with the well-known clarinettist Thea King and gained a clarinet performer’s diploma at the age of eighteen. As a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, he performed in many concert halls in England, toured Poland and Switzerland and took part in several televised performances. He was the principal clarinet at Stockport Symphony Orchestra from 1975 until 2022. He also plays regularly as principal clarinet with both Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra and Cheshire Sinfonia.

Ian became a prestigious Junior Exhibitioner at the Royal Academy of Music, having bassoon lessons with David Chatterton (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, English Baroque Soloists, Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique, etc). Ian plays principal bassoon in Stockport Symphony Orchestra; he also makes occasional appearances on both bassoon and contrabassoon with Bolton and Wilmslow Symphony Orchestras and Cheshire Sinfonia.

Such talent is not to be missed.
