“An exciting time in the progression of Folk musician, singer and song-writer Mat Williams”
After the success of his 2012 album ‘Full English’, Mat will release his new single ‘The Shipping Forecast’ at Midday on the 4th July, on all streaming platforms.
This is the first offering from Carbon Capture – a concept album that has been over two years in the making. After 12 years away from the studio, this album is a life’s work, drawing from Mat’s musical influences over the last 4 decades.
The Shipping Forecast deals with the ‘small boats’ issue that has been gracing our headlines for some time, encapsulating the hypocrisy of our rich history and culture against the backdrop of strained political objectives and short-termism. This song plays with the familiar language of the Shipping Forecast to explore the issue of boats and lives lost to the English Channel due to weather conditions and national apathy.
Mat Williams is an English Folk singer and songwriter from Derbyshire, playing many instruments, most notably acoustic guitar and fiddle. Influences are broad including Pop, Rock and Reggae, genres he has explored in many bands throughout his musical career.
Mat’s 2012 album Full English, a collection of old English Folk songs, has become popular worldwide, particularly the renditions of The Derby Ram, Dashing Away with The Smoothing Iron and The Mermaid.
