Henry Moore exhibition opens at Derby’s Museum of Making

A fascinating exhibition of Henry Moore’s work opens at the Museum of Making in Derby this Saturday (15 October), on tour from the Sainsbury Centre until January 2023.

Spanning Henry Moore’s career, the exhibition, entitled Henry Moore: Threads of Influence, demonstrates the multiple facets of Moore’s practice, from early life drawings and carvings to iconic drawings and late prints.

A range of related objects from the Sainsbury Centre Collection illuminates Moore’s work anew, demonstrating how he was informed by disparate cultures and contexts.

Cathy Putz, Director of Programming for Derby Museums, said:

“We are proud to be able to bring this inspirational exhibition to Derby, to the Museum of Making where this work will really resonate. This is a rare chance to see some of Moore’s lesser-known works – drawings in pencil, pen, ink and charcoal as well as delicate etchings – and to find out m

ore about the influences that shaped his artistic practice throughout his life.”

The exhibition includes life drawings of the human form that laid the foundation for Moore’s ongoing sculptural practice, as well as drawings from his time as an official War Artist. It explores Moore’s influences over the years from artists such as Henri Gaudier-Brzeska and Jacob Epstein, to ancient sculpture from Mexico and beyond.

Henry Moore: Threads of Influence opens on Saturday 15 October and runs until 15 January 2023. It is suitable for all and tickets are now available to book through Derby Museums’ website at: derbymuseums.org, priced £5 adults (16+) and £2.50 concessions.
