Artist profile
Nic Hill is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Derbyshire, UK who makes art alongside practising part-time as a commercial lawyer and spending time with her family.
Nicola has had a passion for art since childhood and enjoys experimenting with a wide variety of techniques and materials.
Having always drawn and painted, Nicola’s first professional steps in art were as a fine art photographer, setting up Nicola Hill Photography to sell fine art prints, teach photography and photograph weddings and portraits.
After moving to Australia in 2006, Nicola took a sabbatical from her law career to study for a Bachelor of Fine Art from the National Art School, Sydney, majoring in sculpture. Drawing is a central focus at NAS which was incredible for improving technique and developing new skills; this 3 year experience as a mature student, covering print making, painting and an in-depth knowledge of art history was transformational. The family returned to England in 2013, settling in the Peak District, Derbyshire.
When it comes to showing her work, Nicola had a solo photography exhibition, Resonance, in Sydney in 2010 and a solo show in Belper in 2023. Nicola has had a 6 page spread in the Qantas in-flight magazine and has had her multi-media work selected for the West Gallery Open Exhibition in 2023 and the Derby Print Open 2024.
Nicola has an interest in natural order and geometry combined with a fascination with organic processes and chance, themes which regularly feature in her work. She is now a member of Green Door Print Making Studios and is looking forward to the next creative chapter!
