Artist profile

Neil A Clarke

Shortly after gaining a degree in graphic design from Norwich School of Art, I became a self-employed artist and craftsman in 1985. I worked as a part-time adult education tutor for DCC. (1986-2006). Originally from Ashbourne, I currently design and produce small items of finely crafted contemporary furniture in solid oak using traditional jointing techniques such as hand cut dovetails. They can be made to commission or for exhibition/sale in craft galleries. Examples can be seen on the Furniture Design page of my website. My website also displays my figurative drawings/paintings which have a strong emphasis placed on observation of subject matter using line, watercolour, acrylic and oil media. Subject matter includes the dramatic landscape of the Peak District and semi-abstract reflections in glass windows. I can also produce architectural illustrations especially portraits of buildings/homes/gardens for special occasions. In recent years I have been mainly producing furniture, although the visual art side of my business still informs the other in terms of the creative thought process; both strands compliment each other and the 2D/3D application of skills is crucial to my way of life.
