Artist profile

Lucie Maycock

I am a freelance and community artist with over 14 years experience working within the arts sector. I have worked extensively with young people over the years co-creating commissioned pieces, delivering workshops and sessions, developing exhibitions, writing evaluations, managing large scale projects and arts facilities.

I am a free thinker and positive individual and my boundless enthusiasm allows me to affect others around me in a positive way. I pride myself on being a diverse character with an almost endless supply of energy and passion. This energy is applied to all the creative projects I plan, facilitate or deliver. My broad range of experience and artistic skills within many art forms is one of my greatest strengths. I can call upon these endless ideas and apply them to a project allowing me to inspire and inform others.

My Work

In 2022 I held my first solo exhibition ‘Forever Altered’ at West Studios in Chesterfield. This experience allowed me to explore my own style and processes in more detail.

‘Forever Altered’ is a series of paintings depicting people who have had an influence on my life. I started with an initial idea that I wanted to create large abstract pieces with a meaningful theme. I went on to ask the people closest to me what they thought made me unique. From the answers I received I realised that what made me unique was them, and the impact they have had on me, so I decided to dedicate my first solo exhibition to these people.

The paintings were created using acrylics, inks and spray paint on canvas. Using abstract techniques and stencils to create a fusion between abstract and street art. Within the paintings I used colours that represented thoughts and feelings about each individual and whist creating listened to music that made me think of them. Expressing myself through the medium of paint in this way is a passion of mine and feeling the work I am creating is very important to me.

I continue to explore the process of connecting emotionally through painting and art, using creativity in a therapeutic way for myself and the people I work with.
