Artist profile

Derwent Brass

Derwent Brass is a proven success story in the Midland’s rich heritage of brass banding. With innovative programming, continuous artistic development, and wide-reaching repertoire – often from the pens of our leading associate composers – we dare to step outside of the traditional mould to lead the way in brass band music and entertainment.

Firmly established in the Championship Section, the band have enjoyed a great deal of podium finishes in both conventional and entertainment competitions across the country. Originally from Derby City, Derwent Brass is now rooted in Belper in the Amber Valley of Derbyshire, comprising both male and female performers of mixed ages and backgrounds, hailing from near and far, all delivering quality music to uphold the position of the number 1 ranked brass band in the county.

Derwent Brass strives to grow its artform with powerful and inspiring experiences for both its performers and audiences, both as its own entity and as advocates for collaboration. With hundreds of events to look back on, some of the most palpable have been shared with other artists, from indie-rock (British Sea Power – Sea of Brass) to contemporary dance (Gary Clarke’s Coal and Wasteland), theatre (highly acclaimed Brassed Off production) to special guest concerts with the likes of the multi-GRAMMY award winning Swingle Singers, Denise Leigh (winner of Channel 4’s Operatunity), Treorchy Male Choir and a multitude of famous brass soloists.

The band has also enjoyed working other guest conductors including the likes of Dr Robert Childs, Professor Garry Cutt, Russell Gray, David Hirst, Mark David, Richard Evans and Dr Alwyn Humphreys MBE.

Performances are wonderfully entertaining and offer music that everyone can enjoy. Don’t miss a fantastic opportunity to discover Derwent Brass – Derbyshire’s Premier Brass Band.
