My most recent work, mainly oil on canvas during 2011-2012, is concerned with capturing momentary feelings in response to encounters. Rather than any ‘objective’ characterisation of typicality, feeling is importantly engaged in the performativity of abstraction. Colour is sometimes the strongest movement, even agitation; at other times it becomes more elusive. Earlier work and inflections of memory can be raided for prompts, subsequently worked and progressed in the act of painting. Sometimes emerging forms become reduced, evident in simpler shapes of lines, wavering blocks, gentle agitation and irregular sensuous forms, suggesting and holding back along the tensions felt. Other work, ongoing, includes series of nude images, in a diversity of media: charcoal, pastel, watercolour, oils and acrylics, as well as mixed media. This similar diversity and mixture of use of materials follows through into work drawn from all sources. I have experience in TV and radio, as consultant, producer and on-screen/live on air
