Dan Webber

Dan Webber (he/him) is an award-winning LGBTQ+ poet, producer and promoter based in Derby, he has previously performed at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, The RSC with Apples and Snakes, and as part of the 25th Birthday Celebrations for Leicester Comedy Festival. Previous commissions include work for Coventry Pride, Derby Feste and SHOUT Festival, Birmingham.

Through his work with Furthest From The Sea Music, Comedy and Arts CIC (2014-2020) he produced large-scale commercial and community focused events across the country, including for Derby Folk Festival, Cathedral Quarter Derby, St Peters Quarter Derby, Luton BID, Halifax BID, Northampton Town BID, Derby Comedy Festival, Nottingham Comedy Festival, Leicester Comedy Festival, Little Ed Fringe Festival, Derby Market Hall and The Furthest From The Sea Festival. In 2020, Furthest From The Sea Music Music, Comedy and Arts CIC were named Best Promoter at Leicester Comedy Festival.

As a spoken word artist, Dan has performed at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, The RSC, YNOT Festival, Leicester Comedy Festival, Reading Fringe Festival, Faversham Fringe, Nottingham Poetry Festival, Derby Poetry Festival, Queer As Jokes London and Incite at The Phoenix Artists Club alongside LGBTQ+ Poet Laureate Trudy Howson.

In 2016 he was named BBC Local Poet for Derby for National Poetry Day and in 2019 competed in the inaugural Comedy Bloomers LGBT Comedian of the Year awards.

Dan has performed digitally at The Hollywood Fringe Festival Virtual Cabaret, Southend-On-Sea Pride, Leeds LGBT Literature Festival, Provisional Art’s Loud and Queer Extravaganza, Gloucester Pride, Warwickshire Pride, Southend-On-Sea Pride and as Part of Nottstopping Festival.

His first collection ‘Genre Fluid’ a study into labels in the arts, in everyday life, and in the LGBTQ+ community was published by Big White Shed, with support from The Big House, in June 2019 as part of Derby Book Festival. A show of the book toured throughout 2019 was named best solo show at Morecambe Fringe 2020.

The Derby Witness, a poetry street art project documenting the people of Derby’s experiences during Lockdown, was commissioned as part of Derby Feste 2020 and is supported by Derby City Council and sponsored by Cathedral Quarter Derby and St Peters Quarter Derby. A Book documenting the project was published by Big White Shed in March 2021. In Spring 2021 ‘The Derby Witness’ was repeated as part of The Cabin Fever Residency at Artcore Gallery, Derby.
