Artist profile
The Chatsworth Players were formed in 2007 by Sylvia Jackson, a professional actor and director who moved to live in Bakewell, in order to bring people together from village groups to perform more challenging and interesting plays that a single village on its own could not produce.
A mix of former professionals and amateurs, we perform twice a year at the theatre in Chatsworth House – the only remaining private theatre in England. We have also begun performing out of doors in the summer and at the Buxton Fringe Festival.
We’ve built a loyal following of hundreds of patrons from all over the country. Most of our audiences are representative of the local population, but we have loyal audience members from Sheffield, Buxton, Birmingham, and Derby – and even from as far afield as Canada, the USA and Japan – who make sure that their visits to the UK coincide with our productions.
