Artist profile

Belper Recorder Players

We are a friendly group of adult recorder players who meet regularly in Belper on two Saturday mornings a month to improve our playing and have fun. We employ a Musical Director and give performances at local arts festivals and hospitals two or three times a year. In 2023 we played at the West Hallam well-dressings festival in July and at the Christchurch Christmas tree festival fayre in December .

Our repertoire covers a very wide range from Early and Baroque music to the Beatles and more modern compositions and we play recorders ranging in size from the garklein to the Great Bass.

Potential new members are welcome to come along and try us out free – our standard is intermediate so this group is not suitable for beginner players. On joining the group there is a quarterly fee. Our group is affiliated to the Society of Recorder Players to benefit from insurance cover and training opportunities.

We offer workshops purely for our group members (during COVID lockdown we had virtual workshops with Sarah Jeffery (of Team Recorder Youtube fame!), with Peter Fender, on Warlock’s Capriol Suite and a Recorders Care and maintenance workshop with Julie Dean. Annually we run an open workshop event as part of Belper’s Arts Fringe Festival.

If you’re interested in joining us, please contact: gbatey07@gmail.com for details of upcoming sessions.
