I’m an artist and creative upholsterer. My work has three related strands: I reupholster old chairs and footstools and have them for sale and as inspiration in my studio-workshop:
- I like to use utilitarian upholstery webbing as a decorative feature in my work, usually it is tucked away underneath all the other layers of upholstery. I’m able to create unique designs for digitally printed fabric, scaled to fit a particular chair. I often use botanical subjects for this which have a direct relationship to the human body and medicine/herbalism.
- I offer a reupholstery service: turn your old chair into an art chair!
- And … I am developing an art practice around old chair frames which I find can be very sculptural, they echo the human body and I’m interested in the way that chairs support us and absorb from us.
