A new theatre for Glossop

Glossop’s first professional theatre opens this autumn at the newly refurbished Victoria Hall. An exciting line-up of comedy, theatre, music and family shows will launch a regular year-round programme of entertainment in the 140-year old community building in the heart of Glossop.

Live At Victoria Hall is a new curated programme of professional live entertainment, which will bring the best of the UK touring scene to Glossop, alongside local stars from the Manchester and Glossop area. It has been founded by Glossop-based theatre producers and venue managers Alice de Cent and Tom Crawshaw, who have over twenty years experience hosting comedy and theatre in the High Peak, as well as Manchester, London, Oxford and Edinburgh.

This new venture has been made possible by the help of Friends Of Victoria Hall, a volunteer-run CIC created to bring this incredible grade-II listed building back to community use. The team has recently overseen a major renovation of Victoria Hall, with a new entrance, toilets and kitchen, and an increased capacity of 120 people.

Confirmed shows in the initial programme include a Halloween-themed improvised musical, kid’s comedy show Comedysportz, music from award-winning acoustic duo Darren & Trish, and a new family Christmas show from acclaimed Buxton theatre group Babbling Vagabonds. It all kicks off on Saturday 17 October with the transfer of Glossop drag queen Angela Bra’s hit Edinburgh Fringe show – Secret Diary Of A Bingo Call Girl.

Tom Crawshaw said “Victoria Hall is such a fantastic space and the team there have been so supportive. We’re excited to create a live performance space that serves Glossop, that hosts the kind of shows people want to see but also a stage for local performers as well. We want everyone to feel welcome so please come and be a part of it!”

The full programme of events can be found online at liveatvictoriahall.com – where you can buy tickets and join the mailing list to hear more. The team are also keen to hear from local residents about the sorts of shows they’d like to see – just complete a contact form on the website or find the team on social media facebook.com/liveatvictoriahall or instagram.com/liveatvictoriahall
