Due to recent political upheaval, LGBTQ+ flags have become an ever more important symbol of resistance, solidarity and identity, which is currently under attack.
As part of Derbyshire Makes 2026, we’re inviting members of the LGBTQ+ community to design and make their own LGBTQ+ flags to fly high in the face of adversity. Bring your own materials which mean something to you or dive into our pre-loved and upcycled fabrics, in these free-to-attend, welcoming and supportive workshops led by Haydn Rhys Cawley.
Haydn Rhys Cawley is a Nottingham-based costume maker and designer whose work has been featured on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, as well as on theatre stages in the Midlands, across the UK and internationally. He trained at Nottingham Trent University and now works as a freelancer.
Haydn is also a drag king known for his handmade looks. Winner of Ladywood’s Legends in Birmingham and runner-up of the Nottingham Drag Pageant 2024, he regularly graces the stage as Loki Lavender.
Suitable for makers of all experience, aged 16 and over, under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
All materials and equipment provided, plus light refreshments provided.
Presented as part of Derbyshire Makes 2026, produced by The Derby and Derbyshire Queer Arts Collective.
