Come and follow | Arts Trail May 2026

Lost for something to enjoy over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend? Find yourself on the path to 6 locations where 37 local artists will welcome you to exhibitions of their artwork. The venues are in Holymoorside Village, Darley Dale, Upper Lumsdale, nr. Matlock, and Holmebrook Valley Park.

Seek out the red balloons which will show you’ve arrived. Entry is completely free and there are items on sale, if you wish, to suit all budgets. You will also discover some delicious refreshments, served by volunteers to support charity funds.

Holymoorside Village offers a textile workshop and two main venues where you can see exhibitions by 16 artists showing an impressive variety of work coordinated by Derbyshire landscape watercolour painter, Sarah Parkin. Also included are three different styles of ceramics and hand-built figures, beautiful textiles and stitchwork, finely crafted jewellery using pearls, sterling silver, and semi-precious stones, as well as fine art, travel and street photography. A popular return exhibit is a wonderful array of repurposed objects in fascinating boxes of curiosities.  The halls are always buzzing with energy and enthusiasm – not to mention excellent refreshments including lunchtime savouries.

Over the hill in Darley Dale, you can be sure of a warm welcome from the 7 artists exhibiting at The Willows. Ceramics, textiles, Japanese style paintings, natural dying, silver jewellery, and 3D construction with a textile influence, showing in the house and workshop. You can also enjoy sitting in co-ordinator Jennie Merriman’s lovely garden with home-made cakes, tea and coffee.

At Ivy Cottage in Upper Lumsdale, nr. Matlock, you will be welcomed to browse the artwork and enjoy light refreshments in the lovely cottage garden. Sarah Burgess will be opening her stitched textile and printmaking studio showing a selection of wall hung work, browser pieces and cards. She works regularly with the Textile Tutor Group of whom 9 members are exhibiting their diverse and experienced talents which include quilting, applique and hand stitch. Ann Bates will also be showing her unique sculptural ceramics in the garden.

NB. The house is not fully accessible and there is uneven paving in the garden.

In The Pavilion at Holmebrook Valley Park you will discover a further group of 4 talented artists – showing landscape paintings, wood sculpture, glass and abstract mixed media organised by Helen Loizou to support friends of the Park.  Round off your visit with a walk and a cuppa in the café.
