Paul Tatler Music Therapy

Paul Tatler Music Therapy

I am a registered HCPC Music Therapist and qualified Neurologic Music Therapist (NMT), specialising in mental health, behavioural and personality disorders, trauma-informed practice and rehabilitation.

I work with young people and adults within mental health recovery pathways, with clinical experience supporting individuals with Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD), Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD and ADD. I deliver both individual and group-based music therapy interventions across mental health, educational and community settings. My practice is grounded in a thorough understanding of music therapy principles, theories and evidence-based approaches.

I completed my Master of Music Therapy (MMT) at the University of the West of England (UWE) in 2022 and qualified as a Neurologic Music Therapist in 2023 through The Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy.

My previous roles include providing neurologic music therapy in a rehabilitation centre for individuals recovering from stroke and acquired brain injury (ABI) and delivering music therapy within a specialist SEN provision for young people aged 11–19 with complex needs, autism and learning disabilities. I have also worked with adults with mental health needs and additional learning disabilities, and I have contributed to community-based social prescribing projects supporting mental health, social development and wellbeing.

My therapeutic approach incorporates improvisation, collaborative song writing, singing and receptive music work to support sensory needs, emotional and behavioural regulation, communication development and social interaction. I structure interventions around clear therapeutic aims and achievable goals.

I have a particular interest in trauma-informed practice and have developed specialist skills in the use of rhythm, drumming and body movement to support recovery and rehabilitation for survivors of trauma. I have undertaken extensive research into the role of rhythm and movement in emotional regulation and behavioural support.

I am committed to ongoing research and clinical development in the areas of behavioural disorders, emotional regulation and neurodiversity, with a focus on supporting young people with ADD, ADHD and ASC. My practice is underpinned by a strong belief in the capacity of music to support emotional wellbeing, self-regulation and mental health recovery.
